Our student bloggers will document their first-year experiences to help answer this question. The following blogs and vlogs (video blogs) may include first-year students' experiences about living with a new roommate, challenging college academics, or social and educational activities they have experience on campus and around Durham! Seeking NCCU First-Year Bloggers, 2010-2011

Dear New Eagles:

Four first-year students will be chosen to be the 2010 NCCU First-Year Bloggers for 2010-2011. We are looking for new students who are willing to share the story of their "first-year experience" through blogging and vlogging!

To be considered, complete the application linked below, and the NCCU Office of Orientation and FYE will be in touch soon regarding the interview process.

The NCCU FIRST-YEAR BLOGGER ONLINE APPLICATION IS LINKED HERE.

Applications will be reviewed as they are received, and 4 bloggers will be chosen on a rolling basis. Bloggers will be chosen based on their displayed potential to sustain creative and innovative blogs throughout the 2010-2011 academic year.

The 2009-2010 year was the inaugural year NCCU had first-year bloggers, and they were very popular with incoming students and parents! Now, YOU have the opportunity to reach out and tell the story of YOUR first-year experience to other prospective Eagles.

For an idea about how other UNC schools are blogging, check these out:
App. State: http://www.admissions.appstate.edu/student-bloggers
NC State: http://admissions.ncsu.edu/blogs/
UNC-Wilmington: http://uncw-admissions.blogspot.com/

The Office of Orientation and First-Year Experience is registered with the Academic Community Service Learning Program, and you can acquire your required service hours by being chosen for this project.

We look forward to hearing from you soon!

LEAD/WHOLE CONFERENCE OPENING SESSION

North Carolina Central University hosted the LEAD/WHOLE Conference on Saturday, February 20, 2010!

LEAD is an annual student leadership conference sponsored by the North Carolina College Personnel Association. In 2010, LEAD combined with the WHOLE Conferece, which is an annual conference at NCCU centered on the WHOLE woman with a mission to create unity among all African-American females.

The theme for the conference was "Back to the Future." During the Opening Session, Dr. Kevin Rome issued a "remix challenge" to students in attendance. Colleges and universities took about 15 minutes to come up with a remix to TV show theme songs from the past!

See these great performances below! (Sorry about the video quality; not the best!)

College and Stress - Hear it from Kelcey, NCCU College Girl

Kelcey, or NCCU College Girl, has had a busy start to the semester! But she's finding ways to manage her time and handle the stres....

"I have been swarmed with homework and writing assignments just yesterday I was given the assignment of reading W E B Dubois book "Souls Of Black folk" which is a 300page book and I have to write a 3-5 page summary by next Thursday. I only have a week and a half to do this assignment. WOW!! Only a short time, but hey when you are in college you get these assignments. It seems like a challenge but I am sure and determined to get this assignment done and turned in on time."
