College and Stress - Hear it from Kelcey, NCCU College Girl

Kelcey, or NCCU College Girl, has had a busy start to the semester! But she's finding ways to manage her time and handle the stres....

"I have been swarmed with homework and writing assignments just yesterday I was given the assignment of reading W E B Dubois book "Souls Of Black folk" which is a 300page book and I have to write a 3-5 page summary by next Thursday. I only have a week and a half to do this assignment. WOW!! Only a short time, but hey when you are in college you get these assignments. It seems like a challenge but I am sure and determined to get this assignment done and turned in on time."

NCCU’s Blood Drive Needs You to ‘Keep the Dream and People Alive’

As the university celebrates its Centennial year and the Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday, North Carolina Central University is working to bank a record-breaking blood drive.

NCCU, Durham, and Triangle communities are invited to schedule appointments but walk-ins are welcome to the Miller – Morgan Building on Nelson Street on Monday, January 18, from 3 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.; Tuesday, January 19, from 10 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.; and Wednesday, January 20, from 12 noon – 5:30 p.m.

NCCU Eagle Institute Orientation - Summer 2010

The summer 2010 orientation dates are now available on our Orientation and FYE website.

These sessions are designed for incoming fall 2010 NCCU students. During the sessions, you'll meet with an academic advisor, register for fall courses, meet other NCCU students, and participate in activities and workshops to help you learn about life at NCCU!

Remember that orientation is $125 for incoming freshmen and $50 for transfer students. The orientation fee is due at the time of registration. The online registration process for orientation sessions will begin on January 31, 2010.

Incoming fall 2010 Freshmen: Join us on Facebook! Log into Facebook and search for the NCCU Class of 2014 (Official). As of today, there are almost 100 students in the group and growing! Join the group to meet other students, find a roommate, or ask questions!

Take a Study Break TONIGHT presented by the NCCU SAB!!!

The NCCU Student Activities Board (SAB) presents STUDY BREAK tonight!

Location: Alfonso Elder Student Union Lobby
Time: 3-7 p.m.

The event is designed to give students a break from the stress of finals.

Come hear a live DJ, play fun board games. SAB will also offer free massages and play the Wii gaming system on a large projection screen.

NCCU Freshman Class Council in the Holiday Spirit

NCCU Freshman Class Council collected funds and perishable items to support a family during the Thanksgiving Holiday! Great job to all involved in the collection and all NCCU students who contributed. The food and a gift card was delivered yesterday to a very appreciate family in Durham to help them have a happy Thanksgiving!

In addition to the supporting a local family, the NCCU Freshman Class Council also sponsored a food collection for the Durham Food Bank. The Council colleceted 622 pounds of food by sponsoring a competition among campus residence halls. Congratulations to Baynes Hall for collecting the most! Great job to all students who participated in these two projects to support families in Durham during the holidays!

NCCU First-Year Blogger of the Week: ASHLEY

Ashley is awesome. She drives an '86 Chevrolet Truck (Custom Deluxe - see her first blog post). She made the NCCU track team. And she's definitely "Not Your Ordinary Barnyard Fowl"

As a freshman at NCCU, Ashley is learning a lot about time-management. She wrote, "My personal definition of time management is being able to manage your schedule wisely... For example, if you have a three page paper due for your English class; but heard about this party (everyone's supposedly going to) taking place at the Union. What would be the logical decision to make?"

Ashley calls her blog Not Your Ordinary Barnyard Fowl, and she's proving to be just that during her freshman year at NCCU.
